A long hard season is finally over for team PRS. After the progressive work of the previous 6 season PRS has dropped back down to a central division 5 position, for the first time in 3 seasons. This position was created by the longest dry spell in top 10 finishes in the team since the riders’ strike of Season 17. The teams year can best be summed up by the abject performance in the div 5 tour Fast on Wheels, after a 4th in the Baltimore Open the team went in to FoW with high hopes and expectations with a good sprinting core and some skills in the hills to go with it. This, however, was all to fail as after 2 top 20s in the opening ITT and a 5th in the first sprint stage, team PRS’s chief hiller, Matko Antonic then took to the fore and despite being on top form got injured very early on in the race and rather destroyed the teams hopes. Even so Idefonso managed to dig deep and take a 12th and 16th in the 2 hill stages. Being a man short in the LO chain also caused issues as the former ROTM SC podium finisher only managed a 9th in the final stage to take a 9th in the SC. The only win of the season came in Monaco in Div 5.
After this Season questions were asked of Team Manger Pete as to whether the squad was good enough and if the team was ageing. Pete was quoted as saying:
“Well this seasons results cannot be taken as a whole, we have proved in previous campaigns that there is ability in the team. However, the long periods without results and the lack of podium finishes this season cannot be ignored and there are a number of riders in the team over the age of 30 and so their abilities are on the wane. Their experience is invaluable to those younger racers and so we cannot expect to lose all those riders over thirty.
Some younger riders have shown little ability and willingness to further their careers. As such there will by a spring clean throughout the team with a possibility of team PRS dipping into the transfer market for the first time. If there are any mangers listening then offers will be considered for all riders.”
These strong words from the team principal can surely only help to motivate those borderline riders who currently are riding for their contracts.
